Banks in Greece will stop charging commission fees for cash withdrawals from ATMs as of Monday, August 11, 2025. Based on a recent legislation by the Finance Ministry, the new measure applies primarily to cash withdrawals from ATMs not belonging to the bank of the card holder.
It is a recent Finance Ministry legislation that going into effect.
A cap of €1.50 will apply to withdrawals from ATMs operated by third-party providers.
In addition, a unified fee of €0.50 is being introduced for money transfers sent via web, mobile, or internet banking through third-party providers.
Balance inquiries will be free for all cardholders, regardless of bank or ATM operator.
The regulation, passed on July 25, included a brief adjustment period to ensure swift implementation and immediate benefits for citizens, the ministry has noted.
The government decided to proceed with these measures after one of the four systemic Greek banks decided to charge fees for ATM withdrawals fees also to its own customers, triggering an outrage.
