An incendiary device was found in forest area in Drosia suburb of northern Athens at noon on Tuesday. The device was consisting of two gas cans, a bottle with gasoline and a candle.
It was found by a citizen who alerted authorities.
The makeshift device was wrapped in insulating tape and a wick.
Security teams who rushed to the scene removed the devise and transported it to laboratories of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (DAEE) for thorough examination.
A suspect has been reportedly arrested after authorities evaluated footage from CCTV cameras.
As in every summer, Greece is under a wave of wildfires raging on several islands and areas of the mainland on Tuesday. The fire season and its bans, the hot-dry-windy phenomenon today that increases the fires risk do not seem to prevent arsonists whatever their motives are.
