Incendiary device found in forest area in northern Athens

An incendiary device was found in forest area in Drosia suburb of northern Athens at noon on Tuesday. The device was consisting of two gas cans, a bottle with gasoline and a candle.

It was found by a citizen who alerted authorities.

The makeshift device was wrapped in insulating tape and a wick.

Security teams who rushed to the scene removed the devise and transported it to laboratories of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (DAEE) for thorough examination.

A suspect has been reportedly arrested after authorities evaluated footage from CCTV cameras.

As in every summer, Greece is under a wave of wildfires raging on several islands and areas of the mainland on Tuesday. The fire season and its bans, the hot-dry-windy phenomenon today that increases the fires risk do not seem to prevent arsonists whatever their motives are.
