Strong winds, temperature drop and very high risk of fires are forecast for Greece for following couple of days. the weather change will start tomorrow, Thursday, September 18, 2025.
According to the latest forecast data from the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, the development of a high pressure area over the Balkans on Thursday, September 18, will cause a significant increase in northerly winds, mainly in the Aegean and in the eastern continental parts of the country.
On Thursday and Friday, September 18-19 winds are expected to blow at intensities of 6-7 Beaufort and locally they may reach 8 Beaufort. Their gusts are estimated to exceed 70-80 km/h in places, which is expected to particularly affect the maritime and coastal areas.

The strengthening of the winds significantly increases the pyrometeorological risk in many areas of the country. Particularly in Attica, Viotia, Central and South Evia, Eastern Argolida, Laconia, areas of the Aegean Sea and South Crete, the risk of outbreak and uncontrolled spread of fires is characterized as high to very high.
At the same time, from Thursday 18/09 the transfer of colder air masses to the country is expected. The temperature will drop significantly, up to 5-6 degrees Celsius, compared to the maximum values of Wednesday, September 17.
According to the available forecast data, the strengthened northerly winds will persist in the Aegean and eastern mainland at least until Saturday, September 20, 2025.
