The planned meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in New York was postponed at the last minute on Tuesday.
The much anticipated meeting was scheduled to take place at 9:00 on Tuesday night, NY time, however, it was postponed at request of the Turkish side five hours earlier.
According to preliminary media information, reason for the postponement was the Turkish president’s participation in a meeting of leaders of Arab and Muslim countries organized today in New York by US President Donald Trump.
However, that meeting was postponed for half an hour due to Donald Trump and the conference will take place at the time the Greek Prime Minister was scheduled to meet with the Turkish President.
Now Greek and Turkish delegations are seeking a new available time for Mitsotakis-Erdogan meeting based on the two leaders’ schedule in New York.
However, the only available times are likely to be on Wednesday morning, Open TV reported.
It should be noted that there has been no meeting between Mitsotakis and Erdogan in the last ten months and this one was much anticipated on both sides, not only due to bilateral relations but also due to Turkey’s participation in the Security Action For Europe (SAFE) for which Greece has raised objections.
