The 56-year-old driver of a coach transporting Public Power Corporation (PPC) employees suffered a heart attack and died short time later after he crashed the bus into the protective barrier at the side of the road linking Ptolemaida to Kozani on Thursday morning.
None of the 25 passengers were injured and all are in good health.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver suddenly felt acutely unwell and lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road. the problem was noticed by the passengers.
“A passenger grabbed the steering wheel and the worst was avoided,” the bus owner told media.
An ambulance was called at the scene but neither the paramedics’ efforts on the spot nor the doctors at the hospital where the man was transported could bring him back to life.
