After Athens, for the first time Thessaloniki and Santorini are included in the Michelin Guide reviews in the context of “Destination Partner” and following the extension of the cooperation between the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT) and the Michelin Guide it was announced on Tuesday.
“Exciting news for the Greek gastronomic scene,” as it has just been announced that the Greek National Tourism Organization is expanding its cooperation with the Michelin Guide, as part of its strategy to strengthen the international recognition of Greece as a gastronomic destination of tradition and high quality.
In anticipation of the Michellin stars for Athens, it is recalled how the Guide moved to our city last year and who currently holds the coveted stars.
For 2026, Greece is strengthening its presence in the Michelin Guide with the new selection of restaurants for Athens (full selection), the inclusion for the first time of Thessaloniki with a full evaluation of all possible distinctions (full selection) and of Santorini.
The reintegration of Athens and the addition of Thessaloniki are expected to contribute substantially to the extension of the tourist season and the strengthening of city break tourism, while Santorini is emerging as a premium gastronomic destination that connects its international reputation with high-level gastronomic distinctions.
The announcement for the inclusion of the new destinations was made on Tuesday, December 16, in the context of a special teleconference, by the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Mr. Andreas Fiorentino, and Mr. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, in the presence of the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Stelios Angeloudis, and the President of the Municipal Council of Santorini, Ms. Georgia Nomikou.
All parties expressed their satisfaction with the new collaboration that comes as a result of months of discussions between the Greek National Tourist Organization, the organizations and the Guide, while Mr. Andreas Fiorentinos stated: “We are particularly happy to welcome Michelin to Athens for the third consecutive year and to present two new Greek destinations to the international gastronomic community. Santorini, one of the most emblematic destinations in the world, has a sophisticated and distinctive gastronomic scene, while Thessaloniki highlights its rich gastronomic character, shaped over the centuries as a historical crossroads of civilizations”.
Based on the course of the collaborations of the 2022–2025 period, the new collaboration with the guide is part of the broader strategic planning of the Greek National Tourist Organization to enrich the country’s tourism product.
Part of the long-term strategic planning of the Ministry of Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organization for the promotion of Greek gastronomy is the further expansion of the Michelin Guide to other Greek destinations, based on a strategic roadmap agreed with the Greek National Tourism Organization as the Guide’s Destination Partner in Greece. source: cnngreece.gr
