Greece’s Meteorological Service EMY issued a Red Alert warning about dangerous weather phenomena forecast for Sunday and Monday, February 1-2, 2026.
The bad weather front is forecast to affect most areas in the country with heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms.
EMY warns that the rainfalls, in addition to being very intense, will also be of long duration.
The strong phenomena in many areas will be accompanied by strong winds of up to 8 to 9 Beaufort and possibly by local hail.
Snowfall will occur in the mountainous areas of the mainland and in the northern mountainous – semi-mountainous areas, and from early Sunday afternoon also in low altitude areas of eastern Macedonia and Thrace. with low altitude.

Locally heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms are forecast:
Sunday, February 1
a. In the Peloponnese from the early morning hours until late afternoon (red warning).
b. In eastern Thessaly (regional units of Larissa, Magnesia including the Sporades) and in the regional units of Central Macedonia Pieria, Imathia and Halkidiki from the morning hours until late afternoon (red warning).
c. In Crete (mainly in the west and south) from the morning hours (orange warning).
d. In the Ionian Islands (mainly the area of Lefkada, Kefallinia, Ithaca, Zakynthos) from the early hours until late afternoon (orange warning).
e. In Epirus and western Sterea from the morning hours until noon (orange warning).
f. In western Thessaly (regional units of Karditsa, Trikala) from the morning hours until afternoon (orange warning).
g. In the remaining areas of Central Macedonia from the morning until the afternoon (orange warning).
h. In eastern Sterea (including Attica) and Evia from the morning until the afternoon (orange warning).
i. In the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese from midday (orange warning).
Monday, February 2
In the islands of the Dodecanese and Crete until the morning (orange warning)
Note that Red Warning is the highest Category 5 and Orange Warning is more moderate, Category 4.
Meteorologists also warn of heavy rainfalls in Athens and Attica forecast to begin in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 1.


Stormy southern winds blowing with intensity 7-8 Beaufort and locally 9 B. are forecast in the Ionian Sea and later in the Aegean Sea.
