Crowds of people gathered at the port of Chania on the island of Crete on Tuesday evening to protest the arrival of the USS Gerald r. Ford.
On its way to the Middle East, the aircraft carried docked at the Souda Bay on Monday for refueling.

Holding anti-war banners written in Greek and English and chanting slogans against a possible war in Iran, protesters marched through the streets of the port town.
The main slogan was “NATO Killers Go Home”
It were citizens, students, organization, collectives and the rally was backed by the communist party of Greece KKE.
At the same time, a large number of American marines were roaming the city center doing their shopping, some not understanding the slogans, others seemed rather surprised by the… reception while others were videotaping and photographing the mobilization with their mobile phones.

The march was organized by the Pan-Cretan Committee Against Bases and Embedding, which in its announcement pointed out that “the massive presence of American warplanes – F-35, A-10, flying tankers and transports – as well as the arrival of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, confirm that Souda is being further upgraded to a critical link in the war chain that tightens around Iran and the peoples of the region as a whole, bringing closer the possibility of a generalized military conflict,” organizers said in a statement, among others.

Crete had better check its surface waters. This ship had problems with its sewage system. How appropriate.
