20-year-old stabbed and died in Thessaloniki, northern Greece

A 20-year-old man was stabbed in the back and died short time later in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, on Thursday night. Authorities initially suspected as motive football rivalry, however, there are reportedly more scenarios under consideration.

The attack took place in the district of Kalamaria, with CCTV footage showing a group of people wearing face masks allegedly chasing the young victim that soon after makes a few steps and collapses next to a  bin. Later, it turned out that the group were friends of the victim.

According to information from state broadcaster ERT that cited an eyewitness, a group of young men chased the 20-year-old through the narrow streets of the area.

The victim was stabbed on the back with a sharp knife and was heavily injured in the lung.

Somebody called the police that a young man was laying on the ground covered with blood. Police and ambulance rescuers arrived at the scene.

The 20-year-old was transferred to a hospital in serious condition and died short time later.

Later, police detained four suspects.

According to police sources, the victim had not been involved in any football-related incidents in the past. However, he allegedly belonged to a group of young men who, pretending to be underage girls, would make appointments in the Meteora grove in Thessaloniki with adult pedophiles, whom they would beat up. daily ethnos.gr reported.

One scenario claims that the 20-year-old victim and three of his friends were organized football club fans set up an ambush on the perpetrator near his home who is also organized fan in an opposing football club.

Police investigation continues, with officers taking into consideration all possible scenarios are being considered including also personal differences.

According to latest information the perpetrator has been identified as a 23-year-old man but no arrest has taken place, so far.
