A special repatriation flight from Abu Dhabi to Greece for citizens traveling with their pets is underway on Wednesday. The special flight has been made possible at the initiative of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A total of 101 Greeks and 47 pets would be on board with 44 of the pets traveling in the cabin, while another 3 in the special luggage room.
According to the latest information late afternoon on Wednesday, the special flight would depart from Abu Dhabi at 15:31 local time and is expected to arrive in Athens at 18:49.
The mission was initially scheduled to take place on Monday, March 16, but was postponed due to the special security conditions and the general instability prevailing in the Middle East.
On March 10, dozens of Greek pet owners stranded in Dubai refused to board on repatriation flights if they had to leave their beloved pets behind due to airlines regulations.
They pressed for intervention of the Greek government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quickly responded saying it would try to organize a special flight with pets.
Apparently a flight from the airport of Dubai was not possible for security reasons.

At last, a good story! Dogs are God’s example of unconditional love. Too bad we are apparently unable to learn from them (except for those who said that they wouldn’t leave their pets behind – Bravo for them!).
