Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission revealed during a speech at the European Parliament how he will save Greece as a country and Greeks as citizens. In a 42-page long communique, Barroso suggested several areas where immediate actions should be taken to “show promising results by the end of 2012.”
Barroso: Greek Salaries BEFORE
These areas include: recapitalizing banks by September; meeting an EU target fixing at 3 days and 100 euros the breiteimum time and cost necessary to set up a new company; privatizing gas and electricity firms; and drawing up an action plan against youth unemployment, now standing at over 50 per cent.Of course, to make all this happen he tabled 15% salary cuts in the private sector and thus as soon as possible.
“As part of the modernisation efforts of the Greek labour market, measures are needed to foster a rapid adjustment of unit labour costs to fight unemployment and restore the costcompetitiveness of the Greek economy. As agreed in the Second Economic Adjustment Programme, measures to foster a rapid adjustment of labour costs to fight unemployment and restore cost competitiveness should aim, together with measures that have already been taken, at reducing nominal unit labour costs in the business economy by 15 percent in 2012-2014. Such measures should take account of the outcome of the social dialogue and go hand-in-hand with broader efforts at strengthening labour market institutions, smoothing wage bargaining at all levels and fighting undeclared work. ”

Greek Salaries AFTER
According to SEAP, the overhaul of the national collective bargain for the wages setting should be prepared by end July 2012, in consultation with social partners.
Ooops! Barroso forgot to mention reductions in the cost of living 🙂
