Barroso: Disorderly Greek Default Will Have Awful Impact (video)

As the euro crisis hits Europe anew,  governments fail apart  over budget crisis and the German-French axis threatens to collapse, it makes one no wonder, that Brussels feels the ice-cold breath of a possible Greek default on its neck. Especially as the upcoming parliamentary elections are expected to drive the country to a political stalemate, at least temporarily.

European Commission president, Jose Manuel Barroso  – in line with the slogans of the two big Greek parties – expressed the belief that a disorderly bankruptcy of Greece would have “awful” consequences. However he refrained from giving details of these consequences. He stuck to a theatrical performance without convincing arguments.

Hit by Awful Consequences

Barroso was speaking at a European Parliament debate on “Europe in crisis, how to win public confidence” when he was asked by an MEP (unfortunately I have no data on her), whether the EU gives priority to the markets than to the people.

As expected Barroso defended the EC policy saying that the first concern is the citizens and the social and economic development of Europe. He also blamed some European governments for not approving proposals, such as the tax on financial transactions.

It looks as if Barroso’s manual does not include any chapter referring to the common European currency, the IMF programmes that urge for currencies devaluation and the inability of euro to adjust itself when necessary.

And, of course, he didn’t answer the question in any convincing way whatsoever. Really Awful!
