France Sends Lagarde-List Again, Prosecutor Calls Wives of Ex Greek Ministers

France will send again the so-called Lagarde-list to Greece after a formal request by the Greek Finance Ministry. A source from French Finance Ministry said on Thursday that in fact Paris has already sent the list to Athens via the administrative way.

The moment the list contains information about taxpayers who are residents of other member-states with which France has signed agreements, we are obliged to give such information,” the source said.

Former French finance minister Christine Lagarde sent the list with Greek HSBC-bank account holders to then Greek counterpart George Papaconstantinou in 2010. However Papaconstantinou admitted recently he did not know where was the original list… The data were stolen in 2008 by ex HSBC employee Herve Falciani.

The infamous Lagarde-List, officially never received by the Greeks and unofficially lost in a labyrynth of cover up attempts became international known when journalist Kostas Vaxevanis published 2,059 names on the list on his HOT DOC magazine.

Ex Ministers Wives on the List

According to Greek media,  the parliamentary committee responsible for the assets of politicians and political parties, will check former Defence and Finance Minister Yiannos Papantoniou because the name of his wife was allegedly on the Lagarde-List. The investigation will take place after economic prosecutor submitted his findings to parliament.

Papantoniou, who was minister under Simitis government, claim that the name of his wife is a pure coincident.

“Neither my wife nor I had money at this bank,” Papantoniou said in a statement.

Also another name of the wife of a former Nea Dimocratia Defence minister was on the list and her husband is to be investigated by the parliamentary committee as well.
