Leader of left-wing SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, will meet with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in Berlin on January 14th 2013. The meeting follows a relevant request by Greece’s main opposition party, apparently mediated to the Finance Ministry through German political party Die Linke.
Several Greek media reported that before giving an affirmative respond Schaeuble had contacted the Greek government that raised no objection to the meeting.
UPDATE: A spokesman from the German Finance Ministry confirmed Firday the meeting between Schaeuble and Tsipras.
“During the meeting of the two political leaders, Mr. Schaeuble is likely to convey a message “that the course that has been charted by the government of Samaras and the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding is the only way to put the Greek economy durably back on in its feet,” said the official. Alexis Tsipras will pay a four-day visit to Germany starting on Saturday.
The news has not been confirmed officially by SYRIZA yet. (sources: To Vima.gr, MEGA TV & others)
PS that would be fun if the Greek government had raised objections to the meeting. Like in good old totalitarian states lol
