Chania: animal activist Bobolaki beaten & harrassed, while investigating case of dogs abuse

The President of animal welfare organization “Animals’ protection” Anastasia Bobolaki was beaten while she was investigating a case of animal abuse. According to local media, Bobolaki was beaten by a man and his father at a gasoline station in Vamvakopoulos area of Chania, Crete.

The incredible incident occurred when Bobolaki went to the gasoline station following a complaint about two guardian-dogs who were allegedly kept in chains and in horrible living conditions.

“He [the owner]violently opened my car door, he pulled me out and started to swear at me, kick me and knocking me on the car,” Anatsasia Bobolaki told Cretan NeaTV stressing that soon an elderly man came to the aid of the young owner. “He started to beat me too and knocking me on the cement, swearing. He opened his pants’ zip and implied sexual harassment.”

Both the owner, 30, and the elderly man hindered her from calling the police or leave with her car as they grabbed her mobile and the car keys.

After she managed to escape she filed a law suit at the nearest police station.

The police is seeking the two attackers who had fled.

“They will not stop us from protecting the animals,” Bobolaki said in an obvious state of shock adding she was aware of the dangers but that she “would not stop fighting for every powerless creature, whether human or animal.”

Anastasia Bobolaki is a well-known animal activist in Greece.

PS Not sure, if the red marks on her hair is blood….

  1. ..this is discusting what has happened to this woman, that is why I keep my mouth shut about what I have or do witness around this village as to what I witness on a day to day basis, with dogs, cats, chickens and even a cow in a small shed where it couldn’t turn round as was tied to the side of the shed they kept it in…… for fear of violence towards my family (children and grandchildren) as the people here aren’t to be crossed…….take it from me…!!!!

    • ” even a cow in a small shed where it couldn’t turn round as was tied to the side of the shed they kept it in ”

Sounds very similar to intensive farming in many parts of Europe, especially the north except there the sheds are big with many steel pens where each animal has almost no room to move and rarely sees daylight. Battery hens are kept in individual cages in huge sheds holding, maybe 10,000 birds. Just so that people can have cheap meat

  2. Heartbreaking and revolting. Ms. Bobolaki is an example to all of us who try to help in the animal welfare community in Greece. It is disgusting what has happened to her, and I hope she recovers OK. If these men treat her like that, can you imagine how they treat their animals???

  3. Ms Bobolaki is a very brave lady indeed because she is still prepared to fight and be a voice for the many mis-treated, neglected and abused animals all around Greece.
There are many, many people on my island alone who do what they can but I am well aware that the repercussions of such caring actions can bring serious results whether it be to the person caring or further abuse or even death for an animal..

It is time for the government to implement the laws for protection of animal which are already in place.

Please, people who truly care..DO NOT STOP ACTING.

  4. A very BIG well done for your tenacity……I know all too well how some people react as when I reported a cruelty situation I was warned off by some locals….
No it did not stop us and the guy was fined 1000 euro…..

The only way to change these views is NOT to give in

  5. Unfortuantely, there are dog lovers and cat lovers in Greece. But, they don’t do anything beyond loving their own individual pets and feeling sorry for the pets who are abused. What there is lacking in Greece is the same anger that they put in all these stupid (do nothing) strikes. Why not close down the downtown area with a pro-animal protest. Of course, the answer is that people don’t have time to deal with animals whether four legged or two.

    • you’re gravely wrong. they did that in recent years, and a law with severe fines (imprisonment incl) was passed. you don’t need to be daily on the media to make the difference. thousands of Greek & foreigners living in Greece work day in, day out for the animals’ welfare.
