It was at least one water bottle that hit the glass window of the IMF representative in Greece Poul Thomsen. The Troika convoy was leaving the ministry of administrative reform in downtown Athens amid the tight seize of protesters angry about the upcoming lay-offs in public service. While the Troikas were sitting pale in their seats, the drivers increased the speed in order to carry away as soon as possible Greece’s lenders representatives from the angry folks.
Hundreds of teachers, school guards and cleaners had gathered outside the Ministry of Administrative Reform on Friday morning.
Tension was high when the riot police tried to push away protesters so that the Troikans would leave the area. Tear gas was fired.
Amid the tension in a suffocating atmosphere, at least two protesters have reportedly collapsed in the middle of the street, two other were injured under unclear conditions. Among them also the president of municipality workers union.
Earlier police had detained 17 protesters for attempting to riot the Ministry of Administrative Reform at 6 a.m. They were later released.
More than 20,000 civil servants will be sent home with 75% of their salary and most probably will be dismissed after a period of seven months until the end of 2014.
A protester said it to the point: “They fire us and expect us not to protest?”
