A fire broke out in the hot spot of Moria on the island of Lesvos on Monday morning after migrants launched a protest against the slow asylum procedures.
According to preliminary information, the staff of EU’s Asylum Support Office (EASO) abandoned the hot spot when the protest started, the angry and frustrated demonstrators set the mobile offices on fire.

Currently the fire brigades operate in the hot spot, while riot police squads try to restore the order.
According to state broadcaster ERT, 6 out of a total of 12 EASO containers were totally burned, 2 were damaged. EASO is to resume asylum operations in about three weeks.
The Hot Spot in Moria has been often the center of riots and protests due to living conditions and slow asylum procedures. The hot spots host some 4,000 people, refugees and migrants who arrived in Greece after march 20th, when the EU Turkey deal went into effect.
According tot latest official information from the Greek Migration Ministry, there are currently 5,943 refugees and migrants on the island of Lesvos that has a total capacity for 3,500 people in Moria hot spot and the reception center run by the municipality.
