One dead, two injured in wildfire in Agioi Theodoroi

One woman died and two elderly were injured during the wildfire that broke out early afternoon Sunday in Agioi Theodori holiday village in western Greece.

The woman was reported missing by her family. Her body was found short before 8 o’ clock in the evening in a ravine. The elderly woman had reportedly left her home in Paronama settlement when it was surrounded by the flames.

An elderly couple was transferred to the hospital in Corinth. They are treated for burn injuries they suffered.

Two houses were burned down, as the strong wind blowing hindered the operation to extinguished the fire.

The fire broke out near the Panorama settlement.

A huge operation with fire fighters, fire brigades vehicles and six aircraft managed to take the fire widely under control.

On Monday, police arrested a 28-year-old Greek as responsible for the blaze out of negligence. The man is owner of a green house. He had started a fire to burn dried greens and grass.

Meanwhile, it is not clear, that the body found belonged to the missing woman. A DNA test will identify the dead.
