In an interview with Athens 984 radio, Rigas claimed the disposable income of Greek households has increased in the past two years.
He justified his claim saying that almost everybody visiting him this summer told him that “there was a big influx of tourists this year” and furthermore “there was in increase in the domestic tourism.”
The increase in domestic tourism was more than 30% something that did not exist in previous years, Rigas said adding “this means that the Greek society has begun to realize that there is a stable situation. There is no such fear. And this creates a prospect of investing, investment program start to materialize, the logic of stability returns to the market.”
He said he was convinced that the disposable income reek households increased because domestic tourism increased and many key players from the tourism sector has confirmed that.
Plausible logic and convincing argumentation #NOT.
I suppose it didn’t come to his mind that Greeks are fed up with paying taxes and decided to spend this summer on their own fun than ot increase the state revenues. Or that some people still do not earn enough to make ends meet month in month out.
Three out of ten Greeks did not pay the first installment of their income tax in July. This dug a hole in the state revenues.
State revenues in July: 4.9 billion euro. This is 756 million euros less than expected accordiing to targets set by the creditors’ bailout.
PS It must be International Trolling Day. For another more time, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble told his local audience that Greeks should erect a monument for him and thank him for the reforms.

Household income is meaurered precisely by the usual economic indicators, with the calculations made by professional statisticians (if Greece has any remaining in the state sector). It is not measured by politicians guessing on the basis of irrelevant data such as the number of tourists arriving. This is a shamefui piece of propaganda from Syriza.
