Should thousands of travellers planning to fly to, from and within Greece on July 25th, be relieved? Most probably….
This morning an Athens court decided that the strike was ‘illegal and abusive’ as the decision was not made by the general assembly of Air Traffic Controllers’ Union.
In their official website though, controllers announce that the Union board will meet tomorrow Saturday, July 24th at 09:00 to decide whether to proceed or not to the July 25th walk off and will determine how they will proceed in the future. So better double check tomorrow, ask your travel agent or airlines.
Yesterday the Air Traffic Controllers had indicated they might suspend the strike if court decided it was illegal. But they have threatened to continue their “work-to-rule” protest, during which they follow strict limits on the number of aircraft allowed in Greek air space. This kind of protest is causing delays to a number of flights.
Greek Air Traffic Controllers had announced beginning of the month 24h rolling strikes demanding new staff and delayed payments.
Please keep us updated. I’m flying to Greece on Sunday 🙂 And yeah, I’m against labor strikes of any kind.
the lastest news: a couple of minutes ago an Air Controller sai: they will decide tomorrow morning!
