An anti-terror investigation of ‘highest national interest’ is taking place in Thessaloniki as the police found a whole ammunition arsenal after a grenade exploded in the hands of a man of Kurdish origin. The explosion occurred on Tuesday night in an apartment rented by two Kurdish men, who reportedly weren’t in the flat during the explosion. The man who died on the spot seems to be a visitor, according to neighbors. The dead man, 32, was apparently handling with the hand grenade when it exploded and torn him apart.
According to police the man was a former member of the illegal Turkish extreme leftist organisation DHKP-C , former Dev-Sol. The two men who rented the apartment have allegedly connections to a Turkish couple. Against the woman there is an extradition request by German authorities claiming the woman belongs to an organisation considered as ‘illegal in Germany.
This case seems quite complex as it implies cooperation of Turkish leftists and Kurds and the big ammunition arsenal puzzles the authorities. Hidden in a secret place in the kitchen there were: an anti-tank type Lowe armed with a projectile (M80 64 mm), one Kalashnikov with 4 magazines, an machine-gun AK, two anti-personnel mines, a Scorpion, an automatic machine Legacy, 600 cartridges of different caliber, 14 grenade detonators, 5 kg of unknown material, 4 aggressive and 9 defensive grenades without detonators/fuses.
Police investigates the case and let’s know there might be terror attacks on Greek soil. And the big question is of course, against what target.
Police officers described the case as of ‘highest national interest’ as it shows the presence of foreign terror organisations in Greece.
