A man, 65, passed away on Tuesday during anti-austerity protests in downtown Athens. According to latest media reports, the protester fainted shortly after PAME , the workers union of Greek Communist Party (KKE) had concluded its march outside the Parliament.
The man was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance. Despite the doctors’ efforts to keep him alive, the man passed away half an hour later.
Until now there is no official statement by Evangelismos Hospital.
Xenofon Lougaris, a port dock worker without work for the last six years, had suffered all the tragic effects of the harsh economic crisis.
Last year and thus on October 20th, another PAME unionist, a construction worker, had passed away during anti-austerity protests in downtown Athens. Dimitris Kotzaridis, 53, had fainted on a bench of Zappeion gardens. Doctors at the hospital could not manage to keep him alive. According to doctors’ Kotzaridis died from a heart attack. There were talks at that that he had fainted after a tear gas device exploded at his feet. Investigation showed the man had no wounds or injuries….
