Two tourists were slightly injured during a gunshot exchange between a fugitive terrorist and Greek police in downtown Athens on Wednesday. According to latest information, the nationalities of the tourists are given as Australian and German.
The Australian tourist, a young man 18 years old, was injured in the left foot and is hospitalized after he received first aid on the spot.
The young man told a reporter of private Mega TV, that he was eating at a restaurant near the place where the gunshot exchange took place, he stood up to see what was happening and he felt a sharp pain in the ankle.
Although there is not much information about the second injured tourist,
Some media report that the German tourist is also hospitalized, while other report that he was also taken to the hospital but he did not stay there, preferring to return to the cruise-liner in Piraeus port.
It is not clear yet, whether the tourists’ injuries were caused by the gun of the fugitive or the police.
While the Greek police has not made any official statement yet, the issue is still being investigating and several scenarios on the shootout in the middle of touristic areas Monastiraki are making the rounds, quite a number of Greek internet users criticize the police for taking such a high risk and proceed to the capture of someone who is being described as a “highly dangerous fugitive” in the middle of the day in an area full of shoppers, cafeterias and tourists.
