An man died and two others were hospitalized after a violent clash broke out among Afghans migrants on Thursday evening in the reception center of Elliniko in south Athens.
The man stabbed and beaten during a fight with a group of fellow countrymen. He died a few hours later at the nearby hospital in Voula. Doctors said that he had suffered extensive head trauma. His name has not been published. Later, state broadcaster ERT reported that he was 16 years old.
The other two men also involved in the clash were receiving treatment for minor injuries.
According to ERT, the fight broke out among groups of 15-20 people and the reason was power struggle over who gets control.
The Elliniko reception center is a non-official camp operating at the premises of the old Athens airport. It hosts some 3,000 people, mostly Afghans.
