The powerful earthquake of 6.4R that stroke the island of Kos trigger a tsunami of 70 cm height. the phenomenon has been confirmed by the director of the Geodynamics Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, Akis Tselentis, and seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos.
The tsunami carried small fishing boats ashore. Bigger boats and yachts were reportedly damaged as they were pushed hard towards the marina and port docks.
The tsunami waves reached also Bodrum on the Turkish coast.

According to Turkish authorities, the sea water moved up to 100 meters ashore. Turkish scientists say that the wave height ashore was at 13 cm and 40 cm in the open sea.

Two foreign tourists were killed and more than one hundred people were injured when the tremor stroke with 6.4R at 1:311 a.m. Friday the island of Kos. Some 90 people were injured in Turkey.
The earthquake epicenter was 33 km North-East of Kos.
