In a dramatic rescue at high sea and in the darkness of the night, an injured Belgian woman was transferred to safety and to a hospital in Athens.
A Super Puma helicopter of the Greek Air Force undertook the difficult mission to transfer the 25-year-old woman from the yacht “Viridiana” where she was working as a member of the crew.
At the time of the rescue the yacht was sailing off the island of Levitha, between the island groups of Cyclades and Dodecanese, near Amorgos.
Wind was blowing with intensity of over 6 Beaufort.
The Super Puma initially transferred the Belgian woman to the airport of the island of Chios and from there to the military airport of Elefsina in Attica. She was taken to the hospital with the ambulance.
The woman had an injury in the hand that needed immediate medical aid.
The yacht was under Belgian flag.
Do they do this for greeks with injured hands? Just wondering.
