Turkey claims that Greece is trying to steal part of the Exclusive Economic Zone of Libya. Defense Minister and retired Army General Hulusi Akar presented maps to convince about his claim.
According to Akar, Greece is trying to misappropriate Libya’s rights to Exclusive Economic Zone bu seizing 39,000 square kilometers south of Crete.
Of, course, Turkey’s problem is not Libya’s EEZ and the country’s rights but its own aspirations in the area and in hydrocarbon resources.
According to another map, Turkey’s Exclusive Economic Zone in the South allegedly borders to Libya’s EEZ with no Greek EEZ in-between.
We shouldn’t be surprised if Ankara claims one day that its EEZ reaches to Gibraltar and why not, also New York and even Australia. In order to build fronts against Greece, it apparently tries to win Libya on its side.
