OXI DAY – 28. October 1940 – The day Greece rejected the Italian ultimatum to surrender to the Axis powers. The day marks the beginning of the war between Greece and Italy that ended in the country’s occupation by Nazi Germany. Greeks celebrate the historical day with a big military parade in the presence of the president of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos in Thessaloniki.
The Greek Armed Forces, descendants of Macedonian wars fighters, survivors of World War II, local groups from all over Greece, they all parade in the sound of military marches.
The Greek Air Force joins with airplanes and helicopters, while an aircraft makes impressive flight over the city in northern Greece at the end of the parade.
