A local man has beaten to death a 40-year-old UK national in a hotel room on the island of Ithaki in the Ionian Sea. The crime took place on Saturday. Greek police arrested the 54-year-old perpetrator a day later but also his 42-year-old wife..
The perpetrator had reportedly suspected that the victim had a relationship with his wife, also a foreign national from New Zealand.
The victim had arrived on the island on Thursday.
According to a police statement, the local man and his wife visited the victim in his hotel room 0on Saturday evening. The two men had a verbal dispute that turned physical and the Greek punching and kicking the victim on the head and the body “resulting in his fatal injury.”
Apparently, both the perpetrator and the wife left the hotel but she returned Sunday noon, where she found the man dead and informed the police.
According to some media information, the woman offered some first aid to the victim on the day of the crime and then she left thinking that he had fallen asleep.
Against the couple police prepared a case-file.
The perpetrator has reportedly a super market on the island of Ithaki.
Locals told media that the couple had marriage problems, that the wife wanted a divorce and moreover to take their 8-year-old daughter with her.
“He loved his daughter above all, he wouldn’t let her go” the perpetrator’s neighbor said claiming that the wife and the victim were in relationship over a decade ago.
