A strong earthquake stroke with the magnitude of 4.8 R the island of Kefalonia in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 19, 2020. It is the second earthquake in less than 48 hours that strikes the islands in the Ionian Sea.
The epicenter of the tremor was located near Poros, 21 km North-East from Argostoli at 4:56 a.m.

The earthquake had a focal depth of 8 km.
The tremor was reportedly very intense and with a loud noise.
People mainly in the south of the island felt it and jumped off their beds.
No injuries have been reported.
The earthquake caused some rock-slides in the transportation network of Kefalonia.

The earthquake occurred less than 48 hours after 4.6 R rattled the neighboring island of Zakynthos on Friday evening.
