There is Sparta! Gerald Butler to join Thermopylae Battle events, run as torchbearer

Gerald Butler would have never thought that he would be invited to visit the home town of legendary ancient King Leonidas when he portrayed the legendary king in blockbuster “300.”

Invitation to Gerarld Butler was sent by the Sparta City Council, invitation accepted.

Hollywood “Leonidas” will take up another Sparta challenge and visit the home town of real King Leonidas on March 14, 2020.

The Mayor of Sparta, Petros Doukas, has invited the Hollywood star to attend the celebrations of the 2,500-year anniversary since the historical Battle of Thermopylae. The Mayor stressed that Butler will be guest of honor in the festivities.

Doukas announced, furthermore, that the 50-year-old actor will also run a distance of 5.5 km as torchbearer  for the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

Butler starred Leonidas in the 2006 American film “300” based on Frank Miller’s comic book and the Battle of Thermopylae.

The film contains many historical inaccuracies and received controversial reviews, but this did not prevent Butler’s star from shining.
