Greece’s authorities announced the death of two coronavirus patients on Saturday morning. Both victims are men in West Macedonia and the island of Zakynthos.
One of the victims was a 90-year-old man hospitalized since a couple of days in the ICU of Ptolemaida hospital in West Macedonia. In the same hospital, are also two of his relatives tested positive on COVID-19. the family is form a village in Kozani.
The second victim is a 67-year-old man hospitalized on the island of Zakynthos since Thursday. According to local media, he was admitted to hospital with heavy symptoms, a sample was sent to Pasteur Institute. His health condition quickly deteriorated and he suffered a heart attack. Despite doctors’ efforts the man passed away. he had underlying health problems.
Both victims were linked to pilgrims who had traveled to Israel and Egypt, state broadcaster ERT TV reported.
The first victim was a 66-year-old man, a pilgrim, who died on Thursday in Patras university hospital, following several days in ICU.
According to stand on Friday afternoon, Greece has 190 confirmed cases, that is 73 new cases when compared to Thursday.
From the 190 cases:
- 47 are over 65
- 79 are aged 40-64
- 7 children aged 0-17
So far, 2,700 coronavirus tests have been conducted, more than 1,000 in the last 48 hours, health authorities said.
The country has imposed a series of restriction measures including the closure of schools, museums and archaeological sites.
On Friday, the government imposed more drastic measures by closing cafes, bars and restaurants as thousands of Greeks defied authorities instructions for social distancing and stay at home and filled cafes and playgrounds taking advantage of high temperatures.
Despite the warnings and the risk of virus outbreak soon of control, Greeks still defy instructions.
A man in Pyrgos, Peloponnese, was taken to public hospital as “suspected” case on Friday. He reportedly run away, when he was told that he has to undergo a coronavirus test.
Media report on Saturday morning of a patient in Thessaloniki set in “house isolation” who ignored the order and went shopping. He collapsed in a sports items shop and panic broke out until the ambulance and police arrived. The shop was closed down, a disinfection team was called in.
