2 more deaths and 77 new coronavirus cases in Greece in last 24 hours

Two more deaths and another 77 new confirmed coronavirus cases have been registered in Greece in the last 24 hours, health authorities announced on Monday evening. Death toll reached 210 and total infections 4,737.

Among the new cases, 10 have been detected among travellers.

The majority of new cases have been again detected in Attica and northern Greece, in 16 regional units in total.

The Greek government imposed the mandatory use of mask also in open-air spaces of ferries and ships on Monday.

Despite the cases surge in the last days, the government and the imposition of  new restrictions , the Shipping Ministry increased on Sunday the capacity on ships and ferries to 80% and 85% from 60% and 65%.

Epidemiologists consider the constant increase of infections as “worrying.”

The new 77 new cases on Monday have been detected:

8  at the entry points in Greece.

2 more travellers voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test in the country after they developed some symptoms. They were tested positive.

The remaining new cases are spread across in 16 regional units:

28 in Attica –

9 in Evros

7 in Thessaloniki- 2 of them are related to the wedding party in Thessaloniki, a week ago.

5 in Corfu – among them two Cricket players

4 in Kavala

3 in Corinth

Each 2 in Cyclades, Chania (Crete) and Evia

Each 1 in Evritania (West Greece), Heraklio (Crete), Lesvos, Magnisia, PellaArkadia, Imathia, Ioannina, Kastoria, Corfu, Kozani, Corinth, Pella (rerlated to Thessaloniki weeding.)

Media report that 9 people were tested positive following a wedding in Alexandroupolis, Evros, NE Greece. Among the infected are the groom, the bride and an infant 1.5 years old.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Monday, the daily growth from Sunday to Monday is 1.7%.

54.7% of the total of infected are men.

Of the total coronavirus cases, 1,303 (27.5%)  are related to travel abroad, 2,345 (49.5%) are related to an already known case. The rest are cases not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.

The rolling average number of infections in the last 7 days is 72 from 31 last Monday, July 27.

Number of patients intubated in ICUs increased to 13 from 12 on Sunday. Among them are 3 women. Average age of the intubated patients is 69.

69.2% of intubated patients had underlying health issues and age over 70 years.

128 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus-related deaths increased to 210.

Among the deceased were 67 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.

95.7% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

Tests

Total tests since the beginning of the outbreak in February is 564,856.

To the official data, some 10,000 tests from private laboratories from over the weekend were apparently added.  Tests in the last 24 hours: 19,417.
