270 new coronavirus cases and 5 more deaths have been recorded in Greece in the last 24 hours. According to health authorities on Friday evening, the number of total infections has reached 9,800 and the death toll 259.
The latest fatality is an 89-year-old man hospitalized in Thessaloniki. He was the 14. victim form the nursing home in Asvestochori.
Of the new cases, 32 were detected among tourists.
The Greek Civil Protections has tightened restrictions on the islands of Zakynthos and Lesvos and imposed the regional unit of Imathia under the regime of increased surveillance.
The country’s health experts are highly concerned due to the sharp increase of infections and deaths in August. The age group mostly affected is those 20-30 and most of them asymptomatic.

According to the official daily bulletin on Friday, 2012 (20.5%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 4347(44.4%) are related to already known infection case.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 35. Their average age is 68, among them are 12 women. 42.9% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
147 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece. Among the last two discharged form the ICUs, are a boy aged 0-17 and a woman aged 18-39.
Officially deaths are at 259. Of the deceased 91 were women. Their average age was 78 and 93.8% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
Rolling weekly average cases at 244 from 223 last week.
Total tests since begin of outbreak are 917,265.
Tests in the last 24 hours: 13,833 with 1,95% of them positive.

Of the 270 new coronavirus cases, 238 are domestic; of them 18 are linked to recent travel within the country, 16 detected after tracking of confirmed case and 6 are linked to known clusters.
Concern in Attica with over 100 new cases for third consecutive day. Also cause of concern are the number of cases in Cyclades, Pella, Kozani and Crete.
26 of the new cases were detected at entry points and another 6 travelers sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.
