Greece records 436 new coronavirus cases, 7 more deaths

Greece recorded 436 new coronavirus cases and seven more deaths in the past 24 hours, health authorities announced on Wednesday evening. Death toll rose to 469 and the number of Covid-19 patients who died in October increased to 78.

Average deaths per week (last 7 days) reached 6.4, while the average last week 4.7.

The total cases have reached 23,495.

37 of the new cases were detected among tourists.

Attica is again on top of the list with 201 new cases.

The number of active cases is 4,900, of them 2,600 are of “unknown source.”

Greek authorities launched an interactive COVID-19 MAP, an online tool where citizens can check the imposed restrictions and measures as well as the risk level of each region across the country.

According to the official daily bulletin on Wednesday,  3404 (14.5%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 9525 (40.5%) are related to already known infection case.

55.5% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs is 86 from 89 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them are 22 women. 93.0% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

245 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Seven more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 469.  Of the deceased 179 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.5% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 365 from 354 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,469,357.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 20,126 with 2.17%of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Daily growth at +1.9%.

Of the 436 new coronavirus cases, 63 are related to known clusters and 31 were detected at the country’s entry points.

Majority of new cases are recorded in Attica

31 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 6 already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidies posted on social media on Wednesday morning that he was going in self-isolation after a member of his family was tested positive.

11 crew members of the ferry Dionysios Solomos have been tested positive to Covid-19.

A 87-year-old woman was transferred from an elderly care home to a hospital in Athens after she was tested positive. Health teams carried out tests to 50 elderly and 20 staff, results are due.

Media reported of a 59-year-old man who died in his home in Athens. A post mortem Covid-19 test was positive.

The refugee and migrants camp VIAL on the island of Chios has been placed in quarantine until 21. October 2020 after an outbreak of coronavirus.

An care home for elderly has been placed in quarantine due to “epidemiological load<” authorities announced late in the evening without giving more details.
