Greece records 13 deaths and 453 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours

Greece recorded 453 new coronavirus cases and 13 more deaths in the past 24 hours, health authorities announced on Thursday evening.The daily cases are constantly over 400 in the last couple of days, while 91 Covid-19 patient died in the first half of October.

Average deaths per week (last 7 days) reached a new record of 7.4 while the average last week 4.7.

As expected, increased deaths decrease the number of intubated patients in hospitals ICUs.

The total cases have reached 23,945 and death toll 482.

30 of the new cases were detected among tourists.

Attica is again on top of the list with 207 new cases.

The number of active cases is 5,000 with over half of them to be of “unknown source.”

Lockdown in Kozani

Health authorities and the Civil Protection placed the Regional Unit of Kozani in lockdown, the first in the second wave of the pandemic in Greece.

Κozani has reportedly 227 active cases in the last couple of days and 215 cases per 100,000 people.

The use of mask is mandatory both in- and outdoors, bars and hair salons are shut down, locals should not travel outside the regional unit.

While for higher educational facilities there will be e-classes, schools of primary and secondary education remain open.

COVID-19 MAP

Greek authorities launched an interactive COVID-19 MAP, an online tool where citizens can check the imposed restrictions and measures as well as the risk level of each region across the country.

According to the official daily bulletin on Thursday, 3434 (14.3%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 9698 (40.5%) are related to already known infection case.

55.6% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs is 82 from 86 a day earlier. Their average age is 67, among them are 24 women. 93.9% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

252 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Thirteen more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 482.  Of the deceased 181 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.3% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 367 from 357 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,489,213.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 19,856 with 2.28% of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Daily growth at +1.9%.

Of the 453 new coronavirus cases, 63 are related to known clusters and 27 were detected at the country’s entry points.

Majority of new cases are recorded in Attica

27 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 3 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.
