Greece’s daily coronavirus cases surge to 2,056, intubations reach 135

For second consecutive day, Greece hit a new negative record with 2,056 new coronavirus cases. Authorities announced on Saturday evening, also another 6 deaths in the past 24 hours. The number of intubations hit also a new negative record as their number increased to 135 from 128 a day earlier.

Thessaloniki has topped the list with 839 new cases.

What is worrying is the daily increase of Covid-19 patients in need of intubation and the increasing rate of positive cases as resulted by the conducted tests.

According to media reports on Friday, there are 974 ICU beds across the country. 288 of them are reserved for Covid patients and 151 were currently occupied (by Friday).

Total cases reached 39,251. Of them 20,805 cases were recorded alone in October alone. In the same month, deaths almost doubled and death toll has reached 626.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Saturday, a series of new restrictions including closure of restaurants, bars and cafes, and placed several regions in partial lockdown for the period of one month. The measures go in force on 3. November 2020.

The Civil Protection listed which regions belong to “increased surveillance” and “high risk.” Here is the new map and where which measures will be implemented.

According to the official daily bulletin on Saturday, 4112 (10.5%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 13278 (33.8%) are related to already known infection case.

55.1% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 135 ! from 128 a day earlier. Their average age is 65, among them are 38 women. 93.3% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

291 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Six more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 626.  Of the deceased 238 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.2% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 1324 ! from 724 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,777,322.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 23,480 with 8.76% of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Daily growth at +5.5% !

Of the 2056 new coronavirus cases, 62 are related to known clusters and 27 were detected at the country’s entry points.

27 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another  4 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.
