Greece’s new record: Coronavirus cases surge to 2,166; another 13 deaths

Greece new negative record as the new coronavirus cases surge to 2,166 on Tuesday. Health authorities announced 13 more deaths, Several new intubations in the past 24 hours increased the number of intubated Covid-19 patients to 169.

Total cases reached 44,246 and death toll 655.

Top regions with the majority of daily cases are again Thessaloniki with 595 and Attica with 542.

Health Ministry spokesman and professor of epidemiology hygiene Gkikas Majiorkinis said that the heaviest epidemiological load has been recorded in northern Greece.

Attica has recorded a 30% increase when compared to daily cases last week.

Thessaloniki has 4 times more diagnosis when compared with Attica and “this has happened in very short time,” Majiorkinis said.
He urged citizens to avoid crowding in small spaces, to wear masks and keep social distancing.”

The regional units of Thessaloniki and Serres, northern Greece, have been placed in full lockdown from early morning Tuesday, 3. November 2020, while in several other regions a partial lockdown went info force also today.

According to the official daily bulletin on Tuesday, 4225 (9.5%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 14111 (31.9%) are related to already known infection case.

54.7% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 169 ! from 153 a day earlier. Their average age is 65, among them are 38 women. 89.3% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

300 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Thirteen more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 655.  Of the deceased 255 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.3% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 1643 ! from 898 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,829,091.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 25,075 with 8.64% of them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

Daily growth at +5.1% – new record!

Of the 2166 new coronavirus cases, 22 are related to known clusters and 40 were detected at the country’s entry points.

40 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 4 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.
