Greece Weather Red Alert: Snowfalls, Frost, Temperature drop up to 18°C, Winds up to 10B

Greece’s National Meteorological Service issued a weather Red Alert on Thursday warning of dense snowfalls, sharp temperature drop up to 18 degrees Celsius and winds reaching up to 10 Beaufort in the coming days.

Barometric low “Medea” is forecast to strike the country initially from the West and the North on Saturday noon, 13. February 2021, and gradually extend to the rest of the country.

Saturday, Feb 13

Saturday noon in the mountainous and semi mountainous parts of Central and North Greece and gradually in the plain-lands of northern Greece.

The phenomena will be intense in West and Central Macedonia, Thessaly, Central Sterea and temporarily also in Epirus.

Sunday , Feb 14

In addition to be above mentioned regions, affected will be also: East Macedonia, Thrace, North Aegean islands, the Sporades islands, mountainous and semi-mountianous of East Sterea, Evia, mountainous areas in Peloponnese.

By evening also mountainous areas of Crete as well as areas of east Sterea and Evia at low altitude.

Monday, Feb 15

Snowfalls will weaken in the West and the North, but will continue in the east mainland including Attica, where the phenomena will be locally dense.

Strong frost in the North on Sunday, Feb 14.

As of Monday, Feb 15, also in the rest of the mainland, mainly in Central Greece.

Total forst in areas of Macedonia and Thrace.

Frost will continue until the end of the said week.

Winds

Gale-force North-East winds with 7-8 Beaufort in North Ionian Sea and North Aegean Sea from Saturday evening.

On Sunday, they will strengthen and reach 9 Beaufort in the east and the North Aegean.

From Monday until Wednesday, (Feb 15-17) locally up to 10 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.

Rainfalls & Storms

From Saturday afternoon: in Ionian islands and temporarily Epirus – until Sunday morning.

Sunday morning: south Peloponnese, Aegean islands and temporarily Crete.
