Greece: 1913 new coronavirus cases, another 28 deaths

Daily coronavirus cases remain alarmingly high as Greece’s health authorities announced on Wednesday evening 1,913 new cases. Another 28 Covid-19 patients died in the past 24 hours and the number of Covid intubations remain 357.

Death toll has reached 6,371 and the total cases stand at 184,686.

Chances that the hard lockdown in Athens and Attica be lifted on March 1 are slim due to the current spike of infections.

Authorities placed the regional unit of Arcadia in hard lockdown for a few days, and the Municipality of Nafplio into red areas under increased surveillance.

Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias expressed his concern about the hospitals situation in Athens and Attica, where admissions of Covid-19 patients are high. Only yesterday [Feb 23], 168 people were admitted and 186 a day earlier.

Regarding the ICU beds, the minister stressed that Attica has the largest epidemiological burden, with a record of hospital admissions.

It is indicative that in Attica the ICU beds are occupied by 90%, that is 235 ICU beds out of a total of 265.

According to the official bulletin on Tuesday, based on the confirmed cases on the last 7 days, 55 are related to travel abroad and 2578 are related to already known cases.

The released data do not allow any more the clues about the rate of infections without known source of contamination.

51.8% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 357 from 357 a day earlier. Their average age is 70, among them 69.1% are men. 86.6% have underlying health problems and/or are aged over 70.

New admission of Covid-19 patients to hospitals are 304 (daily change +1.67%). Average number of admission in 7 days: 258.

Average age of infected is 44 ( age range 0.2-105).

1299 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 28 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 6371. The average age of the deceased was 79 (age range  16-103). and 95.7% had underlying health problem and/or was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 1444 from 1028 last week.

Of the 1913 new coronavirus cases, 5 were detected at the country’s entry points.

5 of the new cases were detected at entry points, and another 2travelers were already in the country.
