Greece ends mini lockdown, announces “more freedoms’ for vaccinated

Greece ‘s Health Minister Thanos Plevris announced the end of mini lockdown in regions classed as “red zones” due to increased Covid-19 infections as well as some more freedoms for the vaccinated citizens.

The “red zone” areas will be marked on the country’s epidemiological Covid-Map so that citizens are informed and can take additional precautions in terms of personal protection measures, such as wearing a mask and social distancing.

The additional freedoms for vaccinated citizens refer to indoor areas of dining and entertainment and permit same activities as before the coronavirus pandemic.

In the closed areas of restaurants, bars and other venues that are for vaccinated citizens only, customers will be allowed to stand – so far only for seated ones – and even dance to music. Staff will be obliged to wear face and keep coronavirus hygiene measures.

Ιn the opened spaces of above mentioned venues, the same measures as today remain, if they are for both vaccinated and unvaccinated citizens. This means: no standing customers, no music.

Scrapping the measure of “mini lockdown” means that there will be no more night curfew 1 a.m.-6 a.m. and music ban 24/7 in areas marked red on the Covid-MAP.

Updated COVID-MAP Oct 6, 2021 here.

Plevris said the the new “measures” were recommended by the political leadership and were approved by the committee of health experts and epidemiologists in the country.

The new measures go into effect throughout Greece from Saturday, 9. October 2021, and will be valid for 15 days when they will be re-evaluated.

PS Honestly fully vaccinated Greeks were expected “more freedoms” other than the announced ones that practically permit only standing and dancing in closed venue areas. On the other hand, the decision to scrap the mini lockdown is more than welcome.

  1. Out of curiosity, KTG, what “more freedoms” did the vaccinated expect? I am fully vaccinated and the only restriction on my life is that I need to wear a mask in certain situations, e.g. in shops, banks, government offices etc. I will go on doing that even if the government says I don’t need to BUT that is most effective as a protection measure if everybody does it.
