Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas issued a recommendation for citizens to reduce electricity consumption by 5% as Greece is obliged to do according to EU member-states agreement.
“Greece in the coming months has a goal to reduce energy consumption during peak hours by at least 5%. So the effort of all of us is to limit the use of energy-consuming devices in the hours from 6 in the afternoon to 9 in the evening, which can be used during the rest of the day”, Skrekas said on Thursday morning in announcements that included state subsidies for electricity bills in November as well as subsidies for natural gas users.
KTG understands that limiting electricity consumption from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. should go into effect right after the minister’s recommendation.
What are the most energy-consuming devices we have in our homes?
Energy inspector Michalis Christodoulidis, listed the most energy consuming devices and applications we use at home in an interview with state broadcaster ERT in September.
According to Christodoulidis these devices reportedly are:
-Water boiler (3,000W to 5,000W)
-Oven (2,200W to 4,000W)
-Air heater (2,000W to 3,000W)
-Hair dryer (1,800W to 2,500W)
-Kitchen hot plate (1,500W to 2,000W)
– Water hearter (1,200W to 3,000W)
-Hair Dryer (1,000W to 4,000W)
-Dishwasher (1,000W to 2,400W)
-Iron (1,000W to 2,000W)
-Air conditioner (900W to 5,000W)
Ways to save energy and money
-Close electrical appliances (when not in use)
-Frequent refrigerator defrosting
-Economic washing machine program
– Economical ironing
-Efficient air conditioner regulation
-Correct use of kitchen – oven
-Smart use of water heater
-Economical – “smart” lighting
PS Surprisingly there is no punishment fee of the usual Greek 300 euros fine for citizens ignoring the recommendation ….
Obviously Mr. Skrekas did not consider that by the inability of the European Union parliament to intersperse the end of the nonsensical time conversion, from 30 October it is also this year again one hour earlier pitch-dark night.
I would be interested to see how much the benefit entitled politicians will cut back, on their multiple subsidized homes. I would guess absolutely nothing
So no Christmas lights in Athens this year? 🙃🤣
