Eleven newborn babies were evacuated from the General Hospital in Alexandroupolis on Monday night due to the wildfires raging in the area.
Ten babies were transferred in batches to the hospital in Kavala.
One of the newborn babies had reportedly to be intubated and was transferred to the hospital in Thessaloniki.
At the same time, approximately 300 adult patients were transported from the Alexandroupolis hospital by ambulance to the passenger ferry “Adamantios Korais” in the port of Alexandroupoli.
“The images from inside the ship are shocking, they remind of evacuations during a war, patients lying on the floor, doctors and nurses continuing their efforts to care for the patients,” local media e-evros.gr stressed.
