6-month-old baby boy beaten and strangulated by his mother

A 6.5-month-old baby with serious injuries was rushed by its grandparents to the hospital of Veria early Tuesday afternoon. The infant succumbed to its injuries before doctors could help it. Police arrested the mother for the death of the baby boy.

According to local media, when the grandparents realized what had happened initially called an ambulance and then decided to take it by themselves to the hospital.

Citing witnesses, media reported that the grandparents were in a stage of horror when they arrived in the hospital holding the dying baby in their arms.

Doctors did their best but the baby died.

MEGA TV reported that the 37-year-old mother started to beat the baby in front of her two other minor children, aged 6 and 7. The horrified girls rushed to the grandparents’ home just across the street to seek for help. Together with a neighbor, They all returned to find the mother still holding the severely abused baby in her hands. With the neighbor’s help they managed to take it away.

The mother claimed to her parents it wasn’t she “but the devil” who abused the baby.

When the baby boy arrived at the hospital, it had neither  pulse nor any other kind of reaction.

According to MEGA TV, the baby was strangulated.

Media reported that the mother had a history of hospitalization for psychiatric problems and in addition she was suffering from postpartum depression after the boy’s birth. She was in treatment by a local doctor.

The two underage daughters are from a previous marriage of the mother, while she reportedly kept no contact to the baby’s father.

There are no reports, so far, about the baby’s father.

The mother and the children had recently moved and settled in Makrohori, apparently to be near her parents.

Local media recall that on the New Year’s Eve of 2023, a 29-year-old mother in the area, threw her 11-month-old daughter into the freezing waters of a dam. the baby girl died within minutes.
