Workers at Athens Metro, urban train ISAP and the Tram launched an emergency work stoppage on Wednesday, to protest the killing of a 50-year-old colleague in a labor accident earlier in the morning.

The victim, a STASY employee and foreman, was killed when he was crushed by reportedly 200-kilo heavy machinery and despite the rapid mobilization of his colleagues, he was unable to stay alive.

The incident occurred at the ISAP Piraeus depot during technical work at the company’s repair base in Piraeus, according to the relevant announcement.

The work stoppage affects all three Metro lines and the Tram and is in effect from 12 noon until 6 p.m.
