Residents of Patras marched through the streets of the city on Saturday morning holding and banging empty pots. It was a march of young and middle ages people, and families who demonstrated with their children. Middle-class residents of the city of Western Peloponnese took to the streets in order to protest the austerity measures and governmental policies. They chanted slogans against “the misery of the Greek people” and distributed leaflets to people to inform them about their positions. The were holding banners saying “They sell our lives” and “We don’t sell, we don’t owe, we don’t pay”. The protesters said they would continue their struggle “until lenders stop sucking the blood of the Greeks and thus with the consent of the politicians.”

NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.
Valid and pivotal in 1765 with GB and America. Valid now, Greece and the European Union.
Ted, more profound words in this situation have never been spoken. The only problem is there is no new world and we are not a colony no matter what troika wants to think. As far as representation let us see what they do tomorrow and wednesday. We are,for now, a democracy and can still fire our politicians at the ballot box. Just a thought, Iceland defaulted and there were hard times but now after three years they are on the rise, the heavens did not fall and the earth kept spinning. Let us default, if we must, pick OURSELVES up and move on. Any thoughts?

I agree 100%.
But if things continue in the way they are going (and in my opinion in the way it was planned) then Greece and all the other proud nations will be little more than colonies. Every bail out accepted puts Greece further and deeper into unsustainable debt and more and more subservient to it’s Brussels masters.
To default would make things extremely difficult for Greece but things aren’t exactly wine and roses right now and with the worst yet to come. All the scaremongering and doom laden scenarios about default are exactly that and they are propagated to frighten the people and to condition them for the fait accompli when we all wake up and find that there is no going back. As you mention, Iceland took their destiny into their own hands, defaulted and are now getting back onto their own feet in just four years.
Take a look at this English MEP. being interviewed on this very subject last year. He puts things far more succinctly and eloquently than me.
