Coronavirus Greece: 20 new cases, 9 of them imported, one more death

Greece’s health authorities announced 20 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Tuesday evening, among them 9 imported ones.” New cases are steadily 2-digit in the last six days, and imported cases remain one-digit.

The number of total infections stand at 3,409 and death toll at 192, after one more COVID-19 patient died on Tuesday morning.

New Cases – Geographical distribution

The majority of the new confirmed cases, 9 cases, have been detected among passengers arriving to Greece on flights from abroad.

4 cases are in Xanthi, north-eastern Greece, in fact a region where restrictions are implemented due to an increased number of infections since beginning of June.

2 cases are in Attica and 2 in Kastoria.
1 in Kozani, 1 in Larissa and 1 on the island of Syros.
According to media, 1 confirmed case in on the island of Zakynthos and 1 in Patras. The cases refer to two men who came from abroad: a Greek national who recently came from Germany to Zakynthos and one Albanian national.
It is the 7th in total confirmed case on Zakynthos since the outbreak and the first in Patras since March.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Sunday, of the total 3,409 cases, 766 are related to travel abroad, 1,900 are related to an already known case. The rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

9 patients are intubated in hospitals Intensive Care Units. Their average age is 58, among them are 3 women. 88.9% of the patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.

118 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus-related deaths stands at 192.

Among the deceased were 61 women.

The average age of the deceased was 76, and 95.8% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

A total of 312,775 coronvairus tests have been conducted since beginning of the year, 5,508 (1.81%) were positive. The data include several tests conducted on a single patient, as well.

Experts are ringing the “alarm bell” as a surge of 132 cases has been recorded in the week June 20-27, 2020. One-third of the 132 new cases are “imported,” that is they were tested either at airports upon arrival or at Promachonas border-crossing with Bulgaria. Greece opened its gates to foreign tourists form several countries on June 15.
