Another 152 new coronavirus cases in Greece, total infections reach 5,421

Another 152 new coronavirus cases have been announced by Greece’s health authorities on Saturday showing that the situation can be called “stable” but also “critical” as the number of total infections are increasing and reached 5,421.

It is the third consecutive day, where the daily infections are over 150. Again the majority of new cases are domestic ones, were detected again in the urban centers in Attica and Thessaloniki, with the latter to top the daily list with 46 new cases.

25 of the new cases  have been detected among travelers.

The number of intubated patients increased to 17 from 14 in the last 24 hours. Two of them had participated in a wedding in Larissa. So far, 8 wedding guests have been infected in total.
During August 1-8, the total new cases reached 963.

Authorities imposed stricter horizontal measures across the country on Friday, and for the first time, also restrictive measures to a tourist  destination, the island of Poros in the Saronic Gulf, a day earlier.

Authorities are on alert, they are reportedly considering additional measures. An extraordinary meeting with the Prime Minister is scheduled on upcoming Monday, August 10.

Head of Civil Protection has warned to impose restrictive measures in Thessaloniki if the number of infections does not decrease in the following days.

The new 152 new cases on Saturday have been detected:

22 at the entry points in Greece.

3 more travelers were tested positive after they developed symptoms and voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test

The remaining new cases are spread across the country in more regional units than on Friday, in 24 units in total.

Each 4 in Halkidiki and in Imathia

Each 3 in Magnisia, Preveza and Corfu

Each 2 in Chania, Pieria, Lesvos, Corfu, Ioannina, Florina

Each 1 in Trikala, Cyclades, Kozani, Kilkis, Kastoria, Ikaria, Deodecanese, Viotia

According to Alpha TV, the one confirmed case on the island of Ikaria is related to a crowded party a few days ago. Health authorities try to track the patients’ contacts. The Mayor of Ikaria has issued a statement urging locals and visitors to comply with safety measures.

One case in Thessaloniki was detected among refugees and migrants accommodated in a hotel in the city center. Guests and staff are in 14-day quarantine insdie the hotel.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Saturday, the daily growth is 2.9%.

54.7% of the total of infected are men.

Of the total coronavirus cases, 1,405 (25.9%)  are related to travel abroad, 2,645 (48.8%) are related to an already known case. The rest are cases not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.

The rolling average number of infections in the last 7 days is 122 from 61 last Saturday, August 1.

Number of patients intubated in ICUs increased to 17. Among them are 4 women. Average age of the intubated patients is 63.

70.6% of intubated patients had underlying health issues and age over 70 years.

129 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus-related deaths remains at 211.

Among the deceased were 68 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.

95.7% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

Tests

Total coronavirus tests since the beginning of the outbreak in February is 640,297. Of them 7,183 (1.13%) were positive.

Of 9,314 tests in the last 24 hours, 1.63% were positive.
