Greece’s health authorities announced on Monday evening 543 new coronavirus cases and 33 more deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country stands at 248.
Death toll has reached 5,829 and the total cases stand at 157,495.
Tests in general and PCR in particularly were much fewer – several thousands – in the last 24 hours due to Sunday.
Mutations
Alarm set sounded in “Agios Andreas” Hospital in Patras after at least 52 doctors and nurses were tested positive to Covid-19. Eleven of them are infected with the British mutation of the coronavirus.
At the live briefing on Monday, the President of the National Vaccination Committee Maria Theodoridou said that “nurses in particular have not receive vaccination either out of negligence or disbelief.”
It should be recalled, however, that the 50 cases in a nursing home in Marousi, in Athens, were also infected with the British mutation.
In northern Greece, a second priest, a close contact to the one infected with the South African mutation, has been reportedly also infected with the virus.
Mutations are a cause of concern for the Greek authorities.
Tougher lockdowns
Authorities placed the regional units of Halkidiki (North Greece), Lassithi (Crete) and Zakynthos (Ionian Sea) in tougher lockdown regime on Sunday due to epidemiological load.

The first case infected with the mutated South African strain of Covid-19 was detected in a priest in Thessaloniki.

According to the official daily bulletin 5968 (3.8%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 49417 (63.9%) are related to already known infection case.
The remaining infections are without known source.
52.0% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 248 from 255 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them are 182(73.4%) men. 86.7% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
1,121 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 33 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 5829. Of the deceased 3427(58.8%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.5% of them had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Everyone in Agios Nikolaos is very confused. Two days ago you published 50 covid cases in Agios Nikolaos. Yet your usual regional report showed none. We are now in the red zone but today you only showed one in all of Lassithi. It is very dangerous to the community not to have accurate numbers. Some people now think there are no cases at all now in Agios Nikolaos, yet 2 days ago you published 50. If we are to stay safe, we MUST have accurate numbers.

whilst the vaccinations are underway, I am very confused about how I can be immunised.
I live in rete but a UK citizen. At first I was told I need an amka number to be able to register for a vaccination. I do not work here and my pension comes from the UK so I never needed an amka number. Then I was told I could apply without an amka number through the emvolio gov.gr site. I found the form which allowed passport numbers which I completed and sent. I then got an email back saying I cannot be vaccinated without an amka number. Now further steps have been put in place telling us to go to our kep office for an amka number for vaccination purposes but when I rang them they knew nothong about it.
Whilst I would love to be vaccinated, I am frustrated abouty what I should do. Please can you clarify for all expats without amka numbers what we should do.
