Greece records 1,517 new coronavirus cases, 44 deaths, 547 intubations

 

Greece’s health authorities announced on Wednesday evening 1,517 new coronavirus cases and 44 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients has further decreased to 547.

At the live briefing on Wednesday, health minister Vassilis Kikilias said that the average of confirmed infected cases is at 1,775, cleary below 2,000.

The average age of infected citizens is at 37 years old, while there is increase in younger age groups.

Positivity rate is constantly below 4%

Greece will continue vaccinations with AstraZeneca without revising the age limits, despite Thrombosis syndromes mostly in people below 50. However, the National Vaccination Committee said women 30-49 could use vaccines with mRNA technology.

A 17-year-old boy infected with the coronavirus has been treated in ICU of an Athens hospital. The patient did not have any underlying health issues, media reported.

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 395,093 infections (daily change: +0.4%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 27 infections are related to travel from abroad and  2036 to other confirmed cases.

51.2% of the infected are men.

There are 44 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of pandemic victims to 11,016. Of these, 95.5% had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.

A total of 547 Covid-patients -from 556 a day earlier – are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 67 years. 62.3% are men. 84.6% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.

2,391 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

250 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: +28.87%). The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 244.

The median age of new infections is 44 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 79 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).

Of the 1517 new cases, 0 were detected at the entrance gates of the country and 0 among travelers already in the country.
